When is the boss available? Gigantamax Butterfree was revealed just recently on a birthday image for Pokémon GO. And it won’t be long before you encounter the monster: The Pokémon will appear on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 2 PM to 5 PM local time.
You will experience Gigantamax Butterfree’s debut in Level 6 Dyna battles. There’s even a chance you might spot the Butterfly Pokémon as Shiny. Additional event bonuses include an increased collection limit of 1,600 for Dyna particles.
Such Gigantamax battles are special challenges that the community sometimes struggles with. The Pokémon are so strong, that up to 40 trainers can face them. To be as well-prepared as possible, MeinMMO shows you how to do this best.
The best counters against Gigantamax Butterfree
What type is Butterfree? The Butterfly Pokémon is a Bug and Flying type. This means that Rock-type attacks are particularly effective. Also, Flying, Fire, Electric, and Ice attacks deal more damage than regular attacks.
Which Pokémon should be used against Butterfree? You can only participate in the battles with Dyna or Gigantamax Pokémon, so your choice of Pokémon is limited.
The best option, considering the types, would be Dynamax Kabutops. To catch it, you must keep an eye on the calendar, as Dyna-boss Kabuto will only appear in the game starting July 28, 2025. You have limited time to catch, evolve, and prepare it for battle.
Otherwise, the following Pokémon in their Gigantamax and Dynamax forms are a good choice for this battle:
- Zacian, King of the Sword
- Zapdos
- Charizard
- Zamazenta, King of the Shield
- Cinderace

What should I pay attention to in battle? It is very important that you communicate with your teammates. You will be participating in a small team of 4 trainers within the 40-person group. Discuss who will take on the role of defender and who will be the attacker. Make sure to fill the Dyna meter with the defenders and then switch to the attackers.
