Can you tell if the wild Pokémon is a Ditto by the display of the “Already Caught” Poké Ball in Pokémon GO ?
For a few days now, the extraordinary Pokémon Ditto has been catchable in Pokémon GO. However, you won’t find the Pokémon in its “normal” form in the wild; you have to unveil it. Ditto disguises itself as another Pokémon using its Transform ability. As a result, it may happen that Ditto is revealed when you catch a Rattata or a Pidgey.
Since you have probably caught many of these two Pokémon, an “Already Caught” Poké Ball appears when you encounter them. But does this display also show up when a Ditto is hiding behind the Pidgey, or can you reveal a Ditto before catching it?
Catching Ditto – Pokémon GO
When Reddit user quintonmarksii asked whether the “Already Caught” Poké Ball is displayed for disguised Dittos, many trainers first realized that this display for already caught Pokémon exists in the game. When you encounter a wild Pokémon in the game, it shows you with a white Poké Ball whether you already have this Pokémon in your collection.
As some users confirmed on Reddit, the “Already Caught” Poké Ball is also displayed when the wild Pokémon is a disguised Ditto that is not yet in your collection. At least if you have already caught the wild Pokémon that Ditto is disguising itself as.
You cannot recognize a Ditto in the wild. Features such as the augmented reality function or the white Poké Ball display do not help. As a trainer, you need to catch wild Pokémon and hope that they reveal themselves as Ditto.
Although you will probably have to catch some Pokémon before you have a Ditto in your collection, as long as the Thanksgiving event is active, you can get over 10,000 experience points with just one Pokémon catch. It’s definitely worth the hunt.
