With the simple overview that this web app provides, you can easily select the right Pokémon and have good chances of winning at a gym attack. The official Pokéwin website lists the various Pokémon by their strength. With a click, you can select the Pokémon you are fighting against. You will then be shown various counter options that are effective against this Pokémon. You can also set how high the CP of the defending Pokémon is – From this, the required CP of the counter Pokémon is calculated.
In Pokémon GO, it’s not just about choosing the right Pokémon type as a counter. An important point in the matchup is the moves of the battling Pokémon. In the Reddit thread about this website, a user wondered why fire Pokémon are good against Lapras. Shyrioon, the developer of the app, responded:
“As far as I know, Lapras is a water/ice Pokémon. Water moves make Lapras 0.8 times as effective against fire. However, due to the ice type, it is also 1.25 times more vulnerable to fire. As a result, it is a ‘normal’ counter because the weaknesses and strengths balance each other out.
However, Lapras has almost only ice and dragon moves, which are not effective against fire. A fire Pokémon could have fire moves that are ‘normal’ against Lapras. For this reason, Lapras is potentially weak against fire Pokémon.”
The app overall makes a good impression and proves to be a useful tool when you don’t have every counter to a specific Pokémon in mind.
