What has changed? With the start of January 2022, the developers of Pokémon GO changed some field research tasks that you can earn by spinning photo disks. Here we show you the new quests and rewards that you can now complete and receive.

Research Breakthrough in January 2022
What’s included? The research breakthrough in January 2022 is an encounter with Onix. Initially, it was planned for you to also farm Mega Energy for Steelix during the encounter, but a bug caused the developers to have to rethink their plans.
Now you can obtain the Mega Energy through a limited-time research task, where you just need to catch Pokémon. This can be completed particularly easily and provides you with 50 Mega Energy per step.
