Pokémon GO had more trainers playing during the festive Christmas season again and made a significant jump in revenue.
Pokémon GO set a record once again during the festive Christmas season last year. Data analysts from Sensor Tower found that Pokémon GO generated $4.9 million in the US on December 31st. This is the highest gross revenue the app has had since July 18th. Pokémon GO was released in July and quickly became one of the highest-grossing apps of all time.
The entire month of December looked rosy for the Poké app in terms of revenue. The week of December 26th was the highest-grossing week Pokémon GO has recorded since July. Trainers spent $22.1 million on Pokémon hunting that week.
Christmas Event Attracted Trainers
The Christmas event attracted significantly more trainers than the Thanksgiving or Halloween events. At that time, there was not only an increased chance of catching Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, but also Pikachu wearing a Christmas hat. In the last week of December, Pokémon GO climbed back to the top in the US and overtook other top apps like Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. The pocket monsters were even the most downloaded app in all of 2016.
Super Mario Run is another top title in Nintendo’s App Store, but it flattened out again in December. The app costs 10 dollars, while Pokémon GO is free-to-play. Perhaps long Christmas walks helped as trainers were on the hunt for the Christmas Pikachu at various stops.

Have you heard how the Pokémon president explains the hype around the app?
