For Earth Day, the Pokémon GO team at Niantic has come up with a special event that is intended to benefit our environment.
In collaboration with Mission Blue, Niantic is organizing a global “Cleanup Event” happening on April 22. If enough trainers participate, there will be rewards for the community.
Niantic in the Fight Against Pollution
An important issue for Niantic is the environment. Pokémon GO trainers are often outdoors and hence come into contact with nature. Now, the Pokémon GO developers are calling for everyone to come together to make the world a little cleaner.
The Cleanup Events are about picking up litter and keeping natural areas clean together with other trainers. If enough trainers join in this action, the following rewards will be available for 48 hours:
- 1,500 players picking up litter
- Double Stardust rewards for catching Ground, Water, and Grass Pokémon
- 3,000 players picking up litter
- Triple Stardust rewards for catching Ground, Water, and Grass Pokémon
The events will be hosted by local nonprofit organizations. Are you interested in participating in these events (or one of them)? Here you can find an overview of the events on the Pokémon GO website. As of the evening of April 4, there unfortunately isn’t an event found in Germany yet, but you can change that.
If you know an NGO (non-governmental organization) that might qualify to participate in this event, you can suggest it with a Google Form. Non-governmental organizations can be local groups and initiatives or global organizations like Doctors Without Borders or Greenpeace. It’s best to check if there are already events planned for Earth Day 2018 in your area.
Earth Day takes place annually on April 22 – over 175 countries participate. In this context, the appreciation for the natural environment is intended to be strengthened.
