We show you which Pokémon hatch rarely and which hatch frequently in Pokémon GO. A Dratini hatches more often from eggs than a Machollo.
So far, not much was known about the factors influencing the content of the eggs in Pokémon GO. Sometimes trainers get a Paras, sometimes there’s a Myrapla. If the best friend then hatches a Lapras from their 10 KM egg, envy quickly arises because you might be getting Dratini from these eggs consistently.
As experts have now found out, there are hidden rarity levels among the Pokémon from the different egg types. But how does this system work and which monsters are particularly rare from eggs?
Rare Pokémon from Eggs
The experts from TheSilphRoad have closely examined the eggs in Pokémon GO and reached an exciting conclusion: The contents of the eggs depend on rarity levels that are not synonymous with the egg type (2 KM, 5 KM, and 10 KM).
Simply put, this means: Not all 10 KM Pokémon are rarer than 2 KM Pokémon or 5 KM Pokémon. While this may initially sound confusing, it can be explained with a simple example: Currently, it is easier to obtain a 10 KM egg with a Dratini than a 2 KM egg with a Machollo. This conclusion resulted from an experiment where a total of 5945 eggs were analyzed.
4 Rarity Levels
In the first study, the experts analyzed 5945 eggs that hatched between the Halloween event and before the launch of the 2nd generation. The results were recorded in a table showing the frequency of the different Pokémon from the eggs.
- In 1st place are Myrapla and Ponita, both hatching 172 times
- Nidoran and Paras are close behind, each hatching 165 times
- Sandan and Quapsel each hatched 164 times
The Pokémon mentioned above hatch frequently from eggs, in contrast to those with lower placements that are particularly rare from eggs.
- Porygon is in last place, hatching only 14 times in the test
- Amonitas hatched only 15 times
- Chaneira is also particularly rare, as it hatched, like Sleima, only 16 times
Based on these results, TheSilphRoad categorized the Pokémon into the following 4 rarity levels:
- Common
- Uncommon
- Rare
- Extremely rare
But which Pokémon fit into the different categories? Before the launch of the 2nd generation, the table looked like this:
Rare Pokémon from Eggs, including 2nd Generation – Current
The 2nd generation has only been active in Pokémon GO for a few weeks now. TheSilphRoad is working hard to classify the new Pokémon into the rarity levels as well. So far, 2514 eggs have been analyzed, allowing for solid results in the Common and Uncommon categories. To achieve more accurate results in the Rare and Extremely Rare categories, more eggs need to be hatched. For now, the current egg rarity table looks like this:
It is now clear from the comparison in the introduction: The chance of getting a Dratini (common) from a 10 KM egg is greater than getting a Machollo (uncommon) from a 2 KM egg. For you, this may mean a change in your buddy Pokémon. If you are collecting candies for Sleima and hope to get this from a 5 KM egg, then you now know that the chance for that is low.
An overview of which Pokémon hatch from which egg can be found in our Pokémon GO Egg List including the 2nd Generation, which we regularly update.
