Deoxys is a Psychic-type Pokémon, just like Mewtwo. Its weaknesses are therefore exactly the same as those of Mewtwo. We will show you here which attackers are suitable for the battle teams.
These attackers should be in your battle teams against Deoxys
The first EX-Raid invitations for the battle against Deoxys have now been distributed in Pokémon GO. To ensure your battle is successful, we will show you here strong counters against the new boss. The types Dark, Ghost, and Bug are particularly effective.
Mewtwo
- Fast Attack: Confusion/Psychic Blade
- Charge Attack: Shadow Ball
- Note: Although Mewtwo is a Psychic-type, it is equipped with the Ghost attack Shadow Ball. This Ghost attack, combined with Mewtwo’s extremely high attack value, is best against Deoxys.
Tyranitar
- Fast Attack: Bite
- Charge Attack: Crunch
- Note: Tyranitar remains one of the top attackers in EX-Raids. The Pokémon benefits from its fighting bonus as it shares the same type as its Dark attacks.
Gengar
- Fast Attack: Dark Claw/Burden
- Charge Attack: Shadow Ball
- Note: Gengar is also a glass cannon in this fight. It has a high attack value, dealing a lot of damage to Deoxys. In return, it is quickly defeated, as it lacks good defensive stats.
Other good attackers:
- Absol with the attacks Counter and Dark Aura
- Banette with the attacks Dark Claw and Shadow Ball
- Pinsir with the attacks Bug Bite and X-Scissor
- Sharpedo with the attacks Bite and Crunch
- Houndoom with the attacks Counter and Leech Life
- Scizor with the attacks Fury Cutter and X-Scissor
Pokémon with generally high attack values are good alternatives in the fight against Deoxys. This includes Pokémon like Dragonite, Rayquaza, and Salamence.

- Jumpluff with the attacks Sky Attack and Dark Aura
- Alakazam with the attacks Psychic Blade and Shadow Ball

Deoxys Attacks: So far, only the Normal Form of Deoxys has been mentioned in Pokémon GO, suggesting that only this form will appear in the EX-Raid. How the other forms of Deoxys could be introduced into the game has been summarized here for you.
- Fast Attacks: Charge Beam (Electric) and Zen Headbutt (Psychic)
- Charge Attacks: Psyshock (Psychic), Thunderbolt (Electric), Hyper Beam (Normal)
Deoxys can’t become really dangerous to any of the suggested counters with these attacks. None of its attacks are very effective against the suggested Pokémon.
Maximum Values: To obtain a 100% IV Deoxys from an EX-Raid, it must have 1570 CP. In windy weather, Deoxys is boosted and has 1963 CP with 100% IV. Deoxys can reach a maximum of 2749 CP.
