More than 70 players have filed complaints against developers Niantic, Nintendo, and The Pokémon Company regarding Pokémon GO.
Since the release of Pokémon GO in July, 72 people have filed complaints with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). The players are concerned about high prices of in-game items, server issues, and trespassing on private property. Of the 72 complaints, 56 are directed at Niantic, while the others are against Nintendo or The Pokémon Company. The information about these complaints comes from Polygon.com.
$450 invested, then the account was banned
Some of these complaints were filed during a time when Pokémon GO’s tracking system (Nearby) was significantly changed. The frequent server issues over a certain period have also led to complaints. One user stated that he spent about $450 in the game before Niantic banned the third-party apps. Afterward, his account was banned for using a third-party app. He said: “Without warning, Niantic took my account away. I tried to contact them via email and also filled out a form against my ban. I would like a refund or to have my account unbanned so I can continue playing.”
Other individuals are complaining due to invasion of privacy. We reported on a similar case back in August. Here residents are suing and want to be involved in the game’s revenue, as Pokémon players allegedly turn their neighborhood into a “nightmare.” But the safety of children is also a concern in the complaints. One complaint states, “I almost hit a child today when he rode his bicycle into the street while holding up his smartphone.”
You can see these and other complaints in the article by Polygon. Public places, such as a library, have already requested that PokéStops be removed.
