On Community Day in December, Pokémon GO players can once again receive all the moves from previous C-Days. We tell you which are the best.
The Community Day in December gives Pokémon GO players the opportunity to obtain all the moves available on previous Community Days once more. Not all of them are truly useful. Some moves are so strong that you should have a Pokémon with that move.
We will show you which Pokémon can learn the best moves during the event.
How strong are the Community Day moves?
We have categorized the Pokémon with their moves into three categories. In Category 1 are the best moves, and in Category 3 are moves that are not worth it. Category 2 lies in between. These are good moves, but there are better ones, or the Pokémon are weak.
Category 1: Metagross, Venusaur, Tyranitar, and Charizard
Metagross with Meteor Mash: The best Community Day move so far could be learned by Metagross. Meteor Mash is the move that deals the most damage due to its stats.
A Metagross with Meteor Mash is therefore not only the best Steel attacker but one of the best all-rounders in the game. Metagross’ high attack stats make it extremely strong in almost every battle.
Venusaur with Frenzy Plant: The move Frenzy Plant is the best Grass move in the game and, after Meteor Mash, also the move that deals the most damage per second.
Venusaur thus becomes the best Grass attacker. It is a must for every player to have a good Venusaur with Frenzy Plant. Without this move, Venusaur is by far not as strong.
Tyranitar with Smack Down: Tyranitar can learn the fast move Smack Down. With this move, it becomes the best Rock attacker in the game. Besides Smack Down, Tyranitar cannot learn any fast move of the Rock type and would otherwise not be that strong.
In Generation 4, Rampardos, a Rock Pokémon, comes that is stronger than Tyranitar. Therefore, Tyranitar with this move does not rank above Venusaur and Metagross; however, it is still unmatched as a Rock type so far.
Charizard with Blast Burn: Blast Burn is the strongest Fire move. Charizard’s solid stats and a strong fast move make it the second-best Fire attacker after Moltres.
Although it will not be the best Fire attacker due to the move, the move significantly boosts Charizard’s strength and makes it useful. Therefore, a Charizard with Blast Burn should not be missing in your team.
Category 2: Dragonite, Typhlosion, Blastoise, and Meganium
Dragonite with Draco Meteor: In terms of strength, Dragonite definitely belongs to the first category. Nevertheless, its move does not really improve Dragonite. Draco Meteor is only better than Outrage in very few situations, and this move can be learned by Dragonite without Community Day.
Nonetheless, Draco Meteor is not a bad move and can significantly strengthen your team. However, if you have enough Dragonites with Outrage, you do not need one with Draco Meteor.
Typhlosion with Blast Burn: As with Charizard, Blast Burn also greatly enhances Typhlosion’s value. Unfortunately, Typhlosion cannot learn any good fast move of the Fire type and is therefore not as strong as Charizard. Their stats are identical, but the fast move does not allow Typhlosion to rank among the top 5 Fire attackers.
Blastoise with Hydro Cannon: Hydro Cannon is one of the top moves in the game. From pure stats, it is even better than Meteor Mash and Frenzy Plant. So far, only Blastoise can learn this move, and here lies the problem. Blastoise’s stats are so poor that even this move cannot upgrade this Pokémon. While it is undoubtedly its best move, Blastoise is simply not usable.
Meganium with Frenzy Plant: With Meganium, it’s the same story: the move Frenzy Plant is particularly good, but the Pokémon itself is useless. Meganium’s stats are catastrophic.
Category 3: Eevee, Ampharos, and Pikachu
Eevee with Last Resort: Eevee and its evolutions can learn Last Resort. However, the Normal type move does not make any of the Pokémon stronger. In terms of damage, the move is not bad, yet every Eevee evolution with its type move is better.
Ampharos with Dragon Pulse: An Electric-type Pokémon with a Dragon move is definitely useless. When Ampharos gets its Mega Evolution, it will also become a Dragon type, but whether and when Mega Evolutions will exist in Pokémon GO remains questionable. Even if that evolution occurs, Ampharos still has no fast move of the Dragon type and numerous strong competitors in that type.
Pikachu with Surf: Not much needs to be said about this move. Pikachu is not strong in the game, and the move does not improve it either. It’s good for collecting, but not much else.
