Now the grand finale begins with the “Champion of Nostalgia Challenge” research. We show you this new special research here in detail.
To participate in this challenge, you must have completed all four limited researches on Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh beforehand. If you haven’t, you can buy the ticket for the Champion research.
How long does the Champion research run? This special research starts on June 3rd at 1:00 PM local time and is only active until Monday, June 8, 2020, at 1:00 PM local time. Once started, this research can be completed at any time – so you don’t have to rush.
Niantic writes in the announcement (via nianticlabs.com) “Unlike the limited researches, this special research can be completed at any time.”
Champion Research – Step 1/5

If you buy a ticket despite already having access
This is how it works: If you have already earned access to the “Champion of Nostalgia Research” for free by successfully completing Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, you can still buy the event ticket for the Champion research.
You will then receive this in addition. So you have both researches active.
The special thing about it is that in the researches in the ticket, each Pokémon encounter is replaced with 10 candies for that species. So you encounter the Pokémon normally and additionally receive the 10 candies.
Professor Willow’s glasses will be replaced by Stardust in the ticket researches when both researches are active.
If you have not successfully completed all of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh and then buy the ticket, you will receive the quests and rewards as listed in steps 1 to 5.
