In Pokémon GO a new event starts tomorrow, May 7, related to the movie release of Detective Pikachu. There will be a new hat-wearing Pikachu and a new shiny.
When does the event take place? The event starts tomorrow, May 7, at 10 PM. It will be active until May 17, for a total of 10 days, and will end at 10 PM.
What the event brings: During the event, you will have the chance to get many great bonuses and event Pokémon. There will be special raids and field research.
All about the Detective Pikachu event in Pokémon GO
These bonuses are available:
- Double XP for catching Pokémon
- Special field research for the event
- Pokémon that play a role in the movie will appear in raids and more frequently in the wild
- A Pikachu wearing a detective hat can photobomb you (like Fabregas)
- Avatar clothing themed around the movie is available in the Style Shop
There is a new shiny: As confirmed by the Pokémon website, shiny Snubbull can also be caught for the first time during the event. This Pokémon also plays a role in the movie.
What we know about the event Pokémon: The movie features various Pokémon that play a role. It is unclear which ones Niantic will choose for Pokémon GO. Pokémon from different generations are involved in the movie, so it is not possible to make a selection here either.
In a fitting trailer for the event, Niantic, however, showcases a small selection of the event Pokémon. These include:

These could be potential raid bosses: In the trailer, Niantic shows Pokémon like Charizard, Blastoise, or Snorlax. They could be found in raids. Thus, one can assume that the current raid bosses will be replaced during the event.
This is why the event exists: The event revolves around the movie “Detective Pikachu”, which will be released in theaters in Germany on May 9. Niantic celebrates this film release with an in-game event.
