When does it start? You will find the new special research starting from August 20 in Pokémon GO.
New special research with Celebi – The new quests
From August 20, likely around 10 PM German time, the new quests in Pokémon GO will start. Then trainers who missed Celebi at the GO Fest in Chicago this year can finally hunt for it.
What about trainers who already have a Celebi? Those who attended the GO Fest in Chicago could already catch a Celebi. These trainers will receive candies through the new special research to strengthen their Celebi.
Requirements for the Celebi quest: Trainers who have completed the third special research project for Mew can start the special research for Celebi at any time.
The Mew quest will not be replaced by Celebi
You can work on the quests for both Mew and Celebi simultaneously. Niantic confirmed this in their blog post:
“You can start the special research for Celebi at any time as long as you have completed the third special research project for Mew. Afterwards, you can actively work on both projects at your own pace!”
More monsters from Johto
New field research: Niantic states that the presence of Celebi causes more monsters from the Johto region to appear. During this time, field research projects featuring monsters from the Johto region will also be available.
