Since Friday night at 10 PM, the Psychic event in Pokémon GO is active. It brings more frequent spawns of Psychic Pokémon and also a new Pikachu with a hat.
New Field Research: Exclusively for the Psychic event, there are now three new field research tasks related to the Psychic type.
Pikachu with a Hat: Along with the field research, there is also a new Pikachu with a hat. This can also be caught in its shiny form.
Additionally, Shiny Ditto was found in the code. You can find more information here.
Three New Field Research Tasks
Niantic announced in its announcement about the Psychic event that new field research tasks related to the Psychic spectacle will be added to the game. These three tasks are as follows:
- Catch 5 Abra or Drowzee
- Reward: Encounter with a Roselia
- Evolve 3 Psyduck or Swablu
- Reward: Encounter with a Girafarig
- Catch 10 Psychic Pokémon
- Reward: 1000 Stardust
It seems that the three quests are quite frequently available. The other quests that have been new since early October are also still active.
Pikachu with a New Hat Appears
No trainer likely expected this: In addition to the various Psychic Pokémon that are now appearing, there is also a new Pikachu. This one wears a hat with two lightning bolts. The Pikachu can also be encountered in its shiny form.
Only 48 hours: On Twitter, the YouTuber “PkmnMasterHolly” reports that this special Pikachu will only be available for 48 hours. Additionally, there will be no Pichu with this hat.
Designed by a Designer: The design of the hat was created by the designer Hiroshi Fujiwara. This design is from the “Thunderbolt Project”, a Pokémon streetwear collection that is being presented this week, according to TheSilphRoad, in New York.
New Avatar Clothing: Not only does Pikachu wear a hat with this design. You can now also have your avatar wear a free T-shirt with the same motif.

Until October 14 at 10 PM, trainers have time to catch more Psychic Pokémon. Our evaluations of the current offer boxes in Pokémon GO can be found here.
What do you think of the new Pikachu? Do you find the field research tasks manageable?
