What are avatar poses? This feature was introduced by Niantic together with lucky friends. You have to purchase the poses in the shop, and once you own them, your avatar will be displayed everywhere with that special pose.
Is this feature needed? The basic idea behind it is fun because the avatar has always stood in the same poses. It gets boring over time.
However, many players think that the price in the shop for this pose is a bit excessive, and there is certainly some truth to that.

What do I get from the poses? Apart from your avatar standing differently, the poses bring nothing. It is purely a cosmetic feature, and you gain no advantage from a pose.
What do the poses cost? You have to pay 500 coins for each avatar pose. That’s about 5 euros. If you only take the coins from the gyms, you’ll need to earn the full coins for a total of 10 days.
What do the players say about it? Many players like the idea of avatar poses but find the price simply excessive. Thus, the opinions are not very positive:
“They are not even properly animated… they just moved his shoulders a bit. They could have had the guy throw the Pokéball in the air and catch it every 5 seconds or so to make it more interesting. 500 coins for something that could have taken a maximum of 5 minutes is unbelievable,” says “alice_afx” on Reddit.
Another player compares the price even with other outfits: “For comparison: You can buy the complete Team Magma or Aqua outfit for the same price as one pose.”
