Arlo, Cliff, Sierra, and Giovanni have new Pokémon in their bags. Which bosses are now worth it in Pokémon GO?
Team GO Rocket is back: The scoundrels have hijacked Pokémon GO once again. Currently, a new Rocket takeover is running – and with them, not only the grunts but also the Rocket bosses are getting new Pokémon.
Sierra, Arlo, Cliff, and the main villain Giovanni have changed their line-ups and are bringing different monsters now.
- Giovanni has Crypto-Heatran
- Arlo gives you Crypto-Tanhel
- Sierra brings Crypto-Trasla
- And Cliff has Galar-Zigzag as Crypto

Arlo with Crypto-Tanhel
Clearly, Arlo is likely to become one of the most challenged bosses in the coming weeks. Because Crypto-Tanhel can evolve into the coveted Crypto-Metagross.
Metagross is already a top attacker in Pokémon GO, but Crypto-Metagross is even more powerful. What’s important is that you remove the move “Frustration” from it while the Rocket takeover is still ongoing.
Additionally, Metagross also has a Mega form, which is not yet in the game. Nevertheless: It will come eventually. And then a redeemed Crypto-Tanhel could be the way to utilize a truly strong specimen.
Sierra with Crypto-Trasla
Basically, you can use the same text as for Arlo. Gardevoir is an absolute top attacker of the Fairy type and can deal even more damage in its Crypto variant.
Moreover, Gardevoir’s Mega evolution is already in the game. Here too, you can use a redeemed Crypto to have a good specimen that costs fewer resources when upgrading.
Giovanni with Crypto-Heatran
When Heatran came into the game, it was somewhat sidelined since it wasn’t a particularly strong attacker. However, that has changed significantly – Heatran is currently one of the best Fire attackers as a normal variant.
And Crypto-Heatran? It even makes it into the top 4.
In the current list of the best Fire attackers, Crypto-Heatran is only surpassed by Mega-Charizard Y, Mega-Blaziken, and Proto-Groudon. So: This monster is worth it.
Cliff with Crypto-Galar-Zigzag
Cliff is currently perhaps the least interesting boss, as Galar-Zigzag and its evolutions are somewhat weaker than the monsters of his Rocket colleagues.
However, for the first thing, Galar-Zigzag, -Zangoose, and Barraskewda have cool Shinies, and secondly, Galar-Zangoose and Barraskewda certainly have a place in PvP in Pokémon GO. They also serve as counters to Rocket.
Accordingly, you can definitely secure one or the other specimen here.
Currently, alongside the Rocket takeover, the regular event “Galar Expedition” is also running, which primarily revolves around the Galar birds. More specifically: the shiny variants of the three legends, which are, however, hardly catchable. They all exhibit very high rarity.
