On the official Niantic website, the developers announce that the deactivation of the Pokémon GO-Gyms is imminent.
It won’t be long before Niantic carries out the gym deactivation in Pokémon GO. On Niantic’s support website, the team announces that the Gyms will be closed “soon.” The reason for this is the gym rework, which aims to make battles for popular spots in villages or cities more interesting.
Gym Rework/Reset in Pokémon GO
The developers of Pokémon GO are planning a revamp of the gyms in the game. The current concept of gym battles is not liked by the team and many trainers. As one of the major updates for 2017, the gym rework aims to bring more fun back to the game.
On Niantic’s official support website, there is a note: “Heads Up: Gyms will soon be closing temporarily for remodeling. Any Pokémon you’ve assigned to Gyms will be returned to you at that time.”
Soon the gyms will be temporarily closed to carry out the revamp. Any Pokémon you have assigned to a gym will be sent back to you.
There is currently no exact date for the deactivation. Due to this new announcement, it is expected that it won’t be long.
Extra Announcement on Social Media
On Reddit, a support staff member from Niantic confirmed that there will be an extra announcement on social media from Pokémon GO. NianticGeorge writes on Reddit: “We want to ensure that trainers have enough time to collect their defender bonuses before we roll out the update and close the gyms. We will post updates on our social channels before the gyms are closed.”
By doing so, Niantic ensures that trainers are not surprised by the deactivated gyms but can collect their defender bonuses in time. It also makes it clear that the warning about the deactivation is not just listed small on the support website but will also be clearly announced for casual players.
