Dedicated fans of Pokémon GO have a big goal, they want to catch all the monsters. However, this obviously has no limits in the real world, and the sale of fan merchandise is booming. Now there is a new product of desire in the Pokémon community: limited Oreo cookies. We took a look at why they are so popular and show it to you.
What kind of fan merchandise is that? Time and again, themed products are offered for fans of Pokémon. The most well-known fan merchandise includes Pokémon trading cards. However, Pokémon lovers can also encounter the little monsters in other areas. Recently, there are special cookies that make the hearts of Pokémon fans beat faster.
These are the Oreo cookies for Pokémon fans
The cookie manufacturer Nabisco announced at the beginning of September 2021 that there would be a limited edition of Oreo cookies. The edition is called “Pokémon x OREO Limited Edition Cookies.” As the name suggests, the cookies revolve around the theme of Pokémon, which is why a total of 16 different monsters are featured as designs. Here they are:

- Charmander
- Squirtle
- Pikachu
- Sandshrew
- Jigglypuff
- Lapras
- Dratini
- Mew
- Cyndaquil
- Sableye
- Piplup
- Snivy
- Panpour
- Rowlet

That’s why fans spend thousands of euros on the cookies
Fans can now delight in special Oreo cookies featuring Pokémon designs. But why should they spend so much money for a few cookies? The background is a strike at the manufacturer Nabisco. This caused production problems and thus delivery shortages.
In the original series, the games, and the trading cards related to Pokémon, Mew is one of the rarest monsters. This has obviously not changed with the Oreo cookies, as Mew is also the hardest to obtain here. For this reason, the cookies are currently very popular on the auction platform eBay.
The Oreo cookies featuring Pokémon designs have become the object of desire. Depending on the design, they are sometimes offered for several thousand euros. For example, the online magazine NPR reports that cookies featuring a Mew design have been sold for over $15,000 (via npr.org). Also, in our research, according to the sales overview on eBay, the Mew cookies are sometimes sold for nearly 1,000 euros.
That fans of Pokémon spend such high sums for a fan item, like the cookies, doesn’t happen for the first time. Especially the popular Pokémon trading cards have captivated trainers. These are also regularly traded at high prices.
The background here is also the rarity of certain specimens. At the beginning of the year, a fan had purchased a set of booster cards from the first generation for the equivalent of 336,725 euros.
