The next Mega Evolution of Pokémon GO has been announced. However, this has sparked mixed opinions in the community.
What are Mega Evolutions? Some monsters in Pokémon GO have the ability to undergo a so-called Mega Evolution when you have collected enough Mega Energy for the monster. This is a temporary evolution that lasts for a few hours. They are significantly stronger and may even adopt different types.
A new Mega Evolution has now been announced. However, this is not only causing cheers in the Pokémon GO community.
“It’s pretty stupid”
What kind of Pokémon is this? A post on X featured an image showing an environment covered with rocks and lava. A volcano can also be spotted, which apparently corresponds to the volcano that Mega Camerupt carries on its back.
Along with the image, there is also a text accompanying the post that points to the monster. It states: “This Pokémon lives deep inside a volcano, and the humps on its back break out every 10 years.”.
Camerupt is a Pokémon from Generation 3 and has the types Fire and Ground. It is the evolution of Camaub. Since the Mega Evolution of Camerupt is not yet in the game, it seems quite clear that this is what it is about.
When will the monster appear in the game? The post also mentions that the monster will debut in a Mega Raid Day. The date of the next Mega Raid Day is already known. It is September 28, 2025. Therefore, it is very likely that Mega Camerupt will find its way into the game on this day.
What does the community say about it? The announcement of the monster is causing mixed reactions in the community. While some trainers are happy that the monster should be easy to defeat, others wish that other Mega Evolutions would be unlocked in the game.
Some of the comments on this on Reddit state:
- “Good, it should be easy solo since double weakness to water”, said Strong-Neat8623
- “Hurrah! Soon all the pre-PLZA Mega Pokemon will be released! EXCEPT MEWTWO”, wrote CrowFlavouredMartini
- “I bet Mega Mewtwo X and Y is going to be reserved for a major event like Go fest and Go Tour or something similar”, said FungiBen
- “Kinda sucks that instead of getting like a fun Hoenn celebration with a Team Aqua and Magma event, they just kinda chucked the last couple Megas out like moldy leftovers”, commented Necessary-Analyst156
Not only is the Mega Raid Day coming up in September. A variety of events, raids, spotlight hours, and further content are also awaiting you this month. What they are and when they take place is summarized for you in an overview: All events in September 2025 in Pokémon GO.
