The PlayStation VR seems to be completely sold out everywhere in Germany. We will tell you where you can still buy and preorder it just before release.
Tomorrow it is finally happening: Sony’s VR headset for the PS4 officially launches on October 13, 2016. However, not every interested gamer will be able to embark on the journey into virtual reality on that day: The PSVR has been sold out for some time now. Where can it still be preordered and by when will it be delivered?
PlayStation VR: Delivery still this year?
The PSVR for the PS4 is considered the VR headset for the masses: Compared to the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, it costs only 399 euros and does not require an extremely expensive gaming PC. Many already have Sony’s gaming console set up in their living room and could start right away with the PlayStation VR – as long as they could get a model.
In Germany, there is no major official retailer left where the PSVR is not completely sold out. At Amazon, the stock was plundered by preorders in no time. Currently, you can only put yourself on a mailing list with the online retailer to be informed about restocks.
Also at GameStop and Media Markt, online purchases are no longer possible. Unfortunately, the offer is sold out, and preordering is not possible anymore. If you’re now considering buying the PSVR not online but directly in a store, things don’t look good either: GameStop provides a map where customers can see in which store Sony’s VR headset is still available. Red means sold out, yellow means almost sold out, and green means available. See for yourself:
Other retailers are still accepting preorders, but they don’t offer much hope that customers will soon have the device in their hands. Saturn points out that due to high demand for the VR headset, unfortunately, the quota is exhausted. However, preordering is still possible; one shouldn’t expect a delivery date before late 2016 to early 2017. These details are also without guarantee. The two online shops Otto.de and Schwab are also still accepting preorders and indicate a delivery “by Christmas”.
In other words: Those who preorder today will have to wait more than two months for the PlayStation VR. However, if you don’t want to wait that long, there’s still the option to dig deeper into your pockets and check eBay. There you will find numerous dealers and private sellers who promise to ship the PSVR by October 13. However, you should expect a hefty markup. Auctions are likely to settle a few hundred euros above the MSRP of 399 euros.
Order PlayStation VR from abroad?
Thanks to Amazon’s vast network, deliveries from abroad are now possible without any problems. Currently, the PSVR is still available for preorder at Amazon Spain, Amazon Italy, Amazon France, and Amazon UK. In Spain, it is even offered at nearly 8 euros cheaper than in Germany.
PS4 Camera and Move Controller
At this point, a note: a PS4 alone is not enough to use the PSVR headset. A PS4 Camera (Amazon.de) is absolutely necessary, which is not included in the 399 euros. The camera still costs around 60 euros extra if you don’t already own one.
A new controller is not needed as most games work perfectly with the DualShock 4. However, the gaming experience is said to be better if two Move Controllers are used. Two of those cost around 75 euros.
By the way: The Move controllers from the PS3 are also suitable for virtual reality.
