What PS5 versions are there?
- PS5 Disc Edition: Console with built-in BluRay drive.
- PS5 Digital Edition: No drive, only usable digitally.
- PS5 Slim: Smaller and slimmer version. The Digital Edition can be upgraded with a drive.
- In addition, there are further versions that are referred to as revisions.

Differences PS5 vs. PS5 Digital Edition
What are the differences? The biggest difference between the two models is actually the drive, as the Digital Edition does not have a BluRay drive.
Otherwise, the PS5 appears slightly bulkier and larger compared to the Digital Edition, which also affects the dimensions and weight. What about the Slim version? Sony has now released the Slim version of the PS5. The Slim model is only smaller and slimmer, but there are no differences in performance.

How do I recognize a new PS5 version?
Manufacturers continue to steadily improve their hardware that they sell. This is due to optimized production processes or when the supplier for components has changed. Such new versions are referred to as revisions.
No, because the hardware used remains identical. Even revisions still contain an AMD processor. Revisions are slightly lighter and offer an optimized chip with less heat generation.
You can easily find out which PS5 version is in the store before you or which one you just received. Because you can find the PS5 model number directly on the original packaging of the PS5 console. The number is also found on the underside of the PS5 console.
As of now (as of April 2023) there are the following revisions. The numbers are always structured the same: CFI-1XXX or CFI 2XXX. The “A” stands for Disc Edition and “B” for the Digital Edition.
The model and serial number of your PS5 is usually located on the underside of your console. Lay your console on its side and remove the stand, then you will find your serial and model number. Here you see a picture of where you need to look for the number:

Which version is next? So far, no new model is known, but many speculate about a PS5 Pro that is supposed to be released sometime in 2024 or 2025. The currently available version is the Slim model of the PS5, which operates with a 2000 series number.
