Even though Sony is still keeping quiet about their upcoming console, there is new information regarding the PS4 Neo. This is a leak, so the following information should be taken with caution.
Improved Hardware of the PlayStation 4 Neo
To achieve 4K quality, hardware needs to be upgraded. The alleged specs indicate that the PS4 Neo uses an AMD processor with eight Jaguar cores. The CPU clock speed is increased from 1.6 to 2.1 GHz.
According to the leak, the GPU is set to feature 36 Compute Units (instead of 18) with a higher clock rate (911 MHz instead of 800 MHz).
This means games not only look better, but the frames remain stable, leading to fewer “stutters.” The TFLOPs are still expected to be 4.2, which represents the number of calculations that can be performed per second. Even if you don’t own a TV with such a high resolution, you will still benefit from the new device.
The old PlayStation 4 remains
The company has emphasized multiple times that Neo is not intended to replace the PlayStation 4. The leak confirms this statement. However, developers are allowed to adapt their games for the new system to utilize the new features.
