For a week now, the third title update has been live on PC, with the new version of FIFA 19 delayed on PS4 and Xbox One. However, Patch 1.04 is not well received: players are clearly complaining about the changes.
This is what the update was supposed to bring: With the third title update, EA Sports planned to make several changes to gameplay as well as the visual presentation of the game. The biggest changes concerned the following points:
- Revised finesse shots: Finesse shots from “impossible/difficult positions” should be significantly less successful.
- Modified defensive influence: Defenders should have more influence on the shot accuracy of forwards when applying pressure from the front. On the other hand, defending behind the forward should have less impact on shot precision.
- Fewer hits on the post: Simple shots from close range should occur less frequently off the post or missing the goal altogether.
- New starheads: A total of 48 players and 2 managers were supposed to receive updated faces.
- Other changes: The goalkeeper AI, screens in Ultimate Team, and other detail changes have also been made.
This is how the patch is received
FIFA community not thrilled: The latest update of FIFA 19 was eagerly anticipated. However, the result brings disillusionment: few players like the new update.
While the revised finesse shots and defensive AI reportedly show little change according to player feedback, many new changes have crept into the game. And players do not like them at all.
Manual defending is hardly rewarded: Many players hoped for an improvement in manual defending, as the proven AI defensive is still very popular.
Even after the patch, the opinion on reddit is clear: It seldom has a positive effect when players take over defending from the AI and control their defenders themselves.
Passing slow and inaccurate: Another criticism concerns passing. In the base version, players had to be more precise in their passing than in FIFA 18. But with the new patch, passes became significantly faster – and slower. On Twitter, for example, a user complains that star player Kevin de Bruyne now passes like Lee Catermole, a player from Sunderland FC.
Shooting still inaccurate: The improved shots from close range also seem to not perform as desired. Although the shot no longer hits the post or misses the goal – the player should not celebrate a goal in the following video either. Although the shot direction clearly shows a curve, the ball goes to the keeper:
Fouls not called correctly: The patch seems to make English toughness fashionable again. Obvious fouls are increasingly not being called:
Other players also draw comparisons to the martial arts league UFC:
Is FIFA 19 getting worse with each update?
Original criticism not heard: In addition, it is criticized that other problems still persist. This includes:
- Server issues
- Inaccurate player substitutions
- Hardly noticeable speed differences
The biggest criticism: When the first patch came out, players feared that EA would change the game too much. In response, the developer stated that they had learned from the mistakes of FIFA 18 and did not want to significantly overturn the gameplay.
However, with each patch, the game changes further – much to the players’ distress:

The new patch has not been well received so far. Will EA Sports come out with another patch soon? After all, the second update was not released that long ago:
