On December 16, 2025, Patch 7.4 for Final Fantasy XIV went live, packed with new raids and quests. However, the highlight is a new mysterious creature around which a cult has formed in less than two days.
What kind of creature is it? The creature introduced with Patch 7.4 spawns in the western highlands of Coerthas. It looks similar to the Level 50 hunt boss Snowbock:
It has the body structure of a gazelle or a ibex, with a long neck, tail, and ears. In contrast to the Snowbock, this mob is Level 1 and does not even have a name. It probably even has less than 40 hit points.
The mystery surrounding this being seems to fascinate players more than the amount of fresh content that went online at the same time. Characters are gathering around the creature, emoting and cursing at anyone who fights it. But what exactly it is, no one can say for sure at the moment.
Players celebrate new mob, but don’t even know its name
How is the community handling this? The Final Fantasy XIV player base is currently wildly speculating about what could be behind the wild, unnamed mob. On Reddit, BK_0000 reported, for example, that he wanted to find out how strong the enemy is. However, he got into trouble from another player for attacking.
On X.com, @LeoFreeze posted the mob and later gave an update: They tried to make the monster kill players – to level it up. Whether it worked is not mentioned by the poster.
In another post on Reddit, CatStarwind asks if anyone has already paid their respects to the creature. In the comments, some users catch up on this and always leave a placeholder for the unnamed mob:

Reddit user Kyseraphym also points out that in the western highlands of Coerthas, there was a similar phenomenon at the launch of the first expansion Heavensward – the Sky Bear:
What could this be about? In fact, one theory especially circulates through social media: The unnamed mob could be related to the new class Beastmaster announced for 7.5 (via The Gamer). This is a special job, similar to the Blue Mage.
While the Blue Mage has to defeat mobs to learn their abilities, the focus of the Beastmaster is on capturing mobs. These can then be sent into battle. A system similar to Pokémon or Palworld.
The Level 1 mob could have accidentally gone live with 7.4 according to theories. This would make it a catchable beast for the Beastmaster or at least a placeholder for another. However, whether the mob will remain in the game longer is not secured. Perhaps the developers find the hype amusing and will not remove the mob.
