In Dune: Awakening, the developers presented the contents of the new update “Chapter 2” and the DLC “Lost Harvest”. However, some of the new features are being received so poorly that the chief has to personally respond.
What errors are being referenced? The developers of Dune: Awakening have provided insights into the new skins of the upcoming update “Chapter 2” through overview graphics and videos. Among them is the new vehicle, which is only available to owners of the “Lost Harvest” DLC.
Players were also able to catch an early sneak peek of the new skins on Reddit. The major topic of contention is the appearance of the skins. In the first shared image, there is a flamethrower, adorned with an Asian comic-style dragon head.
Fans are now concerned that Dune: Awakening is moving beyond the outfits and appearances that they are accustomed to from the source material. Comparisons to Call of Duty and Fortnite, which offer many collaborations and a wide variety of skins, have also been made. However, the chief of the game does not let this upset him and speaks out himself.
Here you can watch the trailer for the big new update:
Inspirations from the books
What does the chief say about the concerns? Joel Bylos, Chief Creative Officer at Funcom, addressed the players’ concerns in a comment on Reddit. He explained that the new flamethrower with the dragon head will not simply be available, but will be obtained through a specific questline that fits within that questline.
He further explains that there is a general orientation towards the books, and that dragons are mentioned there as well. Dragons appear in several mentions in the books and are part of the Dune universe.
How will this continue in the future? Joel Bylos warns that in the future, the game will dive into even “fuzzier” areas of the Dune story, and he is already confident that this will lead to discussions as well.
At the same time, however, he emphasizes his great respect for the original books and does not want to appear disrespectful towards Frank Herbert, the creator of the Dune universe, even if something might not be implemented perfectly.
With this response, the players of Dune: Awakening seem to be satisfied on Reddit and continue to hope strongly that the survival game will not adopt the skin policy that many criticized in Call of Duty (via Reddit).
Some of the new skins have already been shown by the developers and are the opposite of colorful and gaudy. However, what was not shown in the trailer could become more important for many players than colorful skins: A mysterious event for Chapter 2 is coming to Dune: Awakening, which is supposed to lead to the big update through a chain reaction.
