Just over a week after release, the hero shooter Overwatch 2 is struggling with teething problems. There was a bug that could accidentally cause players to purchase skins. The reaction from developer Blizzard is once again causing shaking of heads.
What was that bug? It was a small chat bug. Normally, you open the text chat and your keyboard inputs only affect the chat window. But due to the bug, the inputs also counted for the menu.
If you were in the wrong menu, perhaps discussing skins in the hero selection, you were just two clicks away from a skin purchase with the spacebar. And the spacebar is known to be very popular.
Players were made aware of the error through a thread on reddit (via reddit.com). Here, some victims of the chat confusion report or users mention teammates who lost some credits due to the error.
You can find a quick overview of Overwatch 2 in the video:
How is Blizzard reacting? The bug is no longer in the game. Without further comment, the problem seems to have been fixed. In the official forum post with the current issues and solutions, no entry can be found on this (via blizzard.com).
However, the thread creator on reddit received a response from a game master because he requested a refund for the skin he accidentally purchased. The response:
“After reviewing the issue: Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds or compensation for unlocks made with in-game currency in Overwatch. All unlocks are permanent. If you believe that an issue in the game caused this, please share your feedback in the forum, if you haven’t done so already. I know this is not the answer you wanted to hear. But thank you for giving me the chance to look into this for you”
(via reddit.com).
Currently, it seems there is no chance that you will get your credits back if you were a victim of the error. If Blizzard’s stance changes, we will update the article accordingly.
The release of Overwatch 2 was under a bad star
How is Overwatch 2 doing at the moment? The game is struggling with some issues:
- Long queues even days after the release
- DDoS attacks worsened the situation
- One hero was completely banned due to having infinite ultimates
In addition to this, there are issues with the ranked mode and criticism of monetization. Accordingly, Overwatch 2 has a poor standing on Metacritic, even though the user score does not match the opinion of the press.
Despite some launch issues, Overwatch 2 can also convince many players. The hero shooter offers a unique match dynamic, and when the game runs smoothly, it can bring you a lot of enjoyment.
