A player from Dune: Awakening tried to farm the precious spice of the survival MMO solo using a spice harvester. How it ended and what tip the community has for next time can be found in this article.
How did the farming round go? If you want to farm spice efficiently in Dune: Awakening, you normally go as a group. One player flies the transport ornithopter that brings the spice harvester to the field and also collects it again. You need one or two scouts to look out for worm signs and distribute “thumpers” to keep sandworms away from the actual field. And then, of course, someone also needs to harvest the spice.
On the other hand, those who want to collect the precious spice solo with a spice harvester must drop off the harvester, park the ornithopter, get into the harvester, collect spice, and quickly return to the ornithopter in case of danger, gain altitude, and collect the harvester with the spice before the sandworm catches one of the machines or the character.
Sounds stressful? It is stressful! This is shown in the video by Fire2box on Reddit, where he barely escaped with his virtual life and the collected spice during his first harvesting attempt. How close it was is shown in his comment: “The first time harvesting spice alone, the last time harvesting spice alone.”
Slower is better
What can the player improve next time? The comments under the video show that harvesting spice with the harvester can also be significantly more relaxed solo.
- 3-DenTessier-Ashpool explains on Reddit: “You are going too fast with the harvester. 10 km/h is the maximum to avoid attracting the Shai-Hulud and maximizing the amount of spice you harvest.” Others emphasize that one should aim for a speed of 7 to 8 km/h to avoid attracting the worm.
- LuapYllier sees even more room for improvement on Reddit: “In my opinion, you reacted too slowly to the worm sign… both to the orange waveform and to the sand cloud directly next to you… and you were super slow at picking up the crawler. […] Keep practicing and learning, and it should go well.”
Several other players emphasize that they would have probably been scared silly in this situation. deprecateddeveloper nicely sums up this type of danger in his comment on Reddit:
“If anything, the thrill of solo play makes the DD all the more entertaining and the game all the more exciting. Personally, I couldn’t stand it. I can already feel my heart pounding in my chest as I barely escape with a compactor.”
