Slide-Canceling was one of the most discussed features of Call of Duty 2019 and Warzone. For Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0, the developers have revised the movement and removed Slide-Canceling from the game. However, after the public beta launch, some players found a way to bring back this controversial feature.
What is Slide-Canceling anyway? Under Slide Canceling, “Call of Duty” veterans understand a movement technique that allowed you in CoD Modern Warfare and Warzone to transition from a tactical sprint to a slide. The slide is then interrupted, and you can immediately continue sprinting.
Verdansk is back! The popular map from Warzone will soon be playable in Call of Duty Mobile:
Although Slide-Canceling only chains 3 movement mechanics together, the trick provides you with two crucial advantages:
- You move faster across the map because you are constantly on the move. Because Slide-Canceling resets your tactical sprint, you can use it more frequently.
- You are harder to hit because your posture constantly changes due to the Slide-Canceling. The head of your character is never in the same position, making it harder for opponents to snipe you.
However, you need some practice to successfully apply the trick. Slide-Canceling quickly became the meta in Warzone, leading to casual players feeling at a disadvantage.
Is Slide-Canceling possible in MW2?
Initial rumors that Slide-Canceling was to be removed in MW2 already sparked discussions in the community (via reddit.com). While many players welcome the change, some believe that such aspects are simply part of Call of Duty.
The start of the open beta on Friday now fuels the discussion further. It didn’t take long before some players found a way to use Slide-Canceling in MW2 as well.
Technically, it is not the same technique that we already know from Modern Warfare and Warzone. The new Slide-Cancel is a bit more complicated, but it offers the same advantages as the old trick. Especially casual players now fear that this trick will develop into the meta again.

How does the new Slide-Cancel work in MW2? If you want to master the new Slide-Cancel, you need to do 4 things in the following order:
- Slide
- Switch from your secondary weapon to your primary weapon
- ADS “aim down sights” – so aim through the optic
- Jump
However, it’s a bit more complicated than in Modern Warfare 2019. You can watch how the trick works in this video:
What do you think, should such movement tricks completely disappear from Call of Duty? Or is it okay if a technique like Slide-Canceling contributes to the skill gap between professionals and casual players? Feel free to write it in the comments.
