One of the best games in the universe of Warhammer 40,000 is getting a remaster, and the developers are addressing a common criticism of one of their trailers right before release.
Which game is being referred to? This is about the Definitive Edition of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, a remaster of the strategy game from 2004. A month before release, developer Relic Entertainment released a remake of an old trailer.
This trailer looks significantly better than the original thanks to improved models and effects. Fans still had one major issue. From second 40 in the new trailer for Dawn of War, the scream of a Space Marine was replaced—and many fans were not happy about that at all.

Only three days before the release of the Definitive Edition of Dawn of War on August 14, 2025, Relic re-uploaded the trailer—this time with the scream. You can watch this version on YouTube.
Fans are pleased – the Emperor probably is too
How are the fans reacting to this? The joy over this small but still important decision for many can be gleaned from the comments under the trailer on YouTube:
- Lunne89 writes: “You are redeemed in the eyes of the Emperor.” This refers to the God-Emperor of mankind from Warhammer 40,000.
- “They listened to our feedback… That’s a good sign!,” says vaniellys.
- “THIS IS THE BEST TRAILER NOW,” writes God_of_Why.
- giacomomasini9686 writes: “The AAAAAAAAAAAAAA is back! The Emperor smiles upon you.”
The original Dawn of War is still considered by many fans to be the best part of the trilogy and one of the best games in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
- The Anniversary Edition of Dawn of War, available on Steam, is rated “Overwhelmingly Positive” with 95% positive reviews.
- On Metacritic, based on 51 critic reviews, it received a metascore of 86/100. The user score based on 435 ratings is 8.6/10.
In comparison: Dawn of War 2 receives a metascore of 85 and a user score of 7.6 on Metacritic. Dawn of War 3 scores even worse, with a metascore of 77 and a user score of only 4.6.
For some, Dawn of War was the first point of contact with the Warhammer universe. Despite its age, the game is still a good starting point. You can find more recommendations for games that introduce you to Warhammer here: The 7 best games to get into the world of Warhammer.
