In the free-to-play MMORPG Albion Online by the German developer Sandbox Interactive, PvP is a major focus in the endgame. Recently, thousands of players have clashed in one of the largest mass battles yet. The outcome is impressive.
What is it about? In Albion Online, player conflicts between different alliances occur regularly. This is because areas in the game world can be claimed for one’s own team. Other groups can then challenge this claim, leading to battles. This not only offers some in-game advantages but also prestige for the owners, to the extent that there is a real “politics” in the game.
What happened? In the past few days, there has been one of the largest territorial disputes on the continent “Outlands”. This is a pure PvP area and consists solely of “black zones”. In the black zones, there are several individual areas and fortifications that guilds and alliances can claim. Additionally, every player automatically participates in “open-world” PvP here.
The following video provides you with a glimpse of what such a mass battle, also known as ZvZ (Zerg vs. Zerg), can look like:
The Scale of the Battle is Gigantic
What makes this battle so special? Large confrontations between rival alliances occur regularly, but in this case, the scale was gigantic in all aspects:
- The conflict lasted over 24 hours and consisted of several interconnected skirmishes
- A total of 4,856 players participated
- The number of players killed stands at 5,538 (some players were killed multiple times after being revived)
- 110 alliances and 438 guilds were involved
According to reddit user cheezyjaystick, on one side the alliances SQUAD, LAZYi, ARCH and POE fought together, while on the other side the alliances STEVE, SHREK, OOPS, CALL, BCTA and “NO ALLIANCE” allied.
And who won? That is indeed still unclear. The conflict between the numerous guilds and alliances continues, and the mass battle has yet to declare a final victor.
