Players with a Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Diablo 4 have received a Battle Pass for the game. However, due to a default setting, it was easy to accidentally redeem it too early. Blizzard has now fixed this.
What was the problem?
- The Battle Pass of Diablo 4 comes in a free and a paid path. Those who buy the more expensive editions of Diablo 4 receive the Premium Pass and possibly even 20 tier jumps.
- However, you do not have to redeem the Premium Pass immediately. Some players prefer to wait, for instance, because they do not like the cosmetics from Season 1 or they do not have time.
- However, some have found themselves that they have used their boost with just one click, although they did not want to. This is no longer so easy.
This is the change: Until recently, it was mainly on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S that your cursor would be on the button for Premium activation as soon as you accessed the Battle Pass. Without further confirmation, you could directly redeem the pass with a single button.
This caused a lot of anger on Twitter against Blizzard, especially since the pass also has to be accessed to check the progress of the journey. Community head Adam Fletcher responded promptly and promised a hotfix.
As of July 25, it seems that the cursor is now by default on the journey, rather than on the activation of the Premium Battle Pass.
“A simple confirmation would fix this”
On Twitter, many users criticized the previous variant and even labeled it a scam. The Diablo expert Rhykker referred to it as a “dark pattern,” a design that intentionally misleads users into something.
Rhykker also suggested that it would suffice to simply add a confirmation pop-up. Instead of directly activating the pass with the button, you would need to press “Yes” again to complete the action.
The current solution is apparently only a temporary fix, as Fletcher indicates in his reply. Several hotfixes and patches are scheduled in the coming days to address primarily problems. There are not yet any detailed infos available.
