In Helldivers 2, many players come together to protect democracy. Some of them have physical disabilities, but that doesn’t stop them from fulfilling their duty for Over-Earth, if it weren’t for the pesky anti-cheat.
What is currently going wrong? A player complained about Helldivers 2 on X (formerly Twitter). Steven Spohn is the Senior Director of Development at AbleGamers, an organization advocating for accessibility in gaming to counter social isolation among people with disabilities.
Spohn is upset that Helldivers 2 does not allow him to play. The reason for this is the anti-cheat. Steven says he is physically disabled and needs to rely on aids to pursue his hobby.
To play, he uses a special hat that translates his head movements into keyboard inputs. So far, no anti-cheat program has flagged his method, but Helldivers 2 is the exception. He is denied access, even though he doesn’t use hacks or cheats – only supportive software for his disability.
With his post on X, Steven reached not only fans of democracy but also the head of Arrowhead personally.
Player complains, but the CEO responds
Who responded? The CEO of Arrowhead, Johan Pilestedt, reacted under Steven’s post. He promises to look into the case personally and wants to know from Steven which software he uses for gaming. Additionally, Pilestedt tagged the X accounts of Arrowhead and Helldivers 2, so they are informed as well.
This is not the first time the CEO of Arrowhead has personally addressed the concerns of players. Whether on X or Reddit, Pilestedt speaks up in many discussions and talks with fans about future plans, conspiracy theories, or problems bothering the community.
Whether the problem with the anti-cheat will be resolved is still unclear. The response was 2 hours ago (as of April 2nd, 11:40 AM). It is quite possible that they are still exchanging thoughts.
Does the anti-cheat work in Helldivers 2? If it is supposed to work, our MeinMMO author Christos hasn’t noticed it. During his hours-long liberation actions for democracy, he has encountered many players who either cheated samples or manipulated the cooldowns for their airstrikes or orbital strikes.
