In League of Legends, bugs can still occur after all these years. A player has discovered a curious error within the LoL launcher that prevents him from purchasing Riot Points.
What are Riot Points used for? In League of Legends, optional items are purchased with the in-game currency Riot Points. In addition to over 1,000 different skins, they are also used to pay for emotes or the battle pass.
To buy Riot Points, you simply need to click on the small plus symbol next to the existing Riot Points in the LoL launcher and select a payment option as well as the amount of currency. Normally, you should then be redirected to a website to confirm the transaction. However, one Reddit user was redirected to a school login instead.
What kind of school website is this? In a Reddit post, the user LordJLK shared the curious bug with the LoL community. He shows that after selecting the Riot Point package, he is redirected not to PayPal, but to the login page of “Mission Vista Academy”. There, he is supposed to log in with his email and the password for the “Homeschool Hub”.
Players celebrate the bug and already have a suspicion
What does the community say about the bug? Under the post of the LoL player, the community celebrates the bug. User magdakun writes that this is probably the funniest bug he has ever seen, and he wonders how it could happen.
What could be the error? A user suspects a DNS error that led to this bug. DNS stands for “Domain Name System” and serves as a kind of “telephone directory” of the Internet. It converts simple web addresses into IP addresses, allowing the PC to connect to the desired domain.
In the case of the Reddit user, the DNS system may have returned an incorrect IP address that instead led him to the school’s website.
Bugs like being redirected to a school website are not the only errors that occur in League of Legends and Riot.
