A player complained that a manufacturer had sent him back the wrong graphics card. The accusation caused a stir, and even the manufacturer responded. Meanwhile, there is another statement. And the manufacturer not only denies all responsibility but also accuses the player of having lied knowingly.
What was the situation?
- A player explained that he had sent an RTX 4070 Ti for repair. Cost: about 800 euros.
- Later, he received a box with a graphics card. However, the box only contained an RTX 3050, a significantly weaker GPU.
- At that time, the player accused the manufacturer on reddit of cheating him by swapping the graphics card for a lesser model. We reported this on MeinMMO.
- The manufacturer responded to the accusations and denied all blame, demanding pictures or an invoice, which the player could not provide.
- In the end, the accused company assumed that the 4070 Ti must have been stolen by a third party during the outbound or return journey.
What is the current situation? The accused company Overclockers UK has not taken the allegations lying down. The company informed the English magazine PCGamer that they have conducted their own investigations and determined: “After months of investigating the issue, we have reason to believe that the customer attempted to defraud us.”
The company cites several reasons why the customer may have lied
What points does the company raise? Overall, the company cites several things it claims to have investigated in this case:
- The company stated that the transport company “confirmed the weight of the returned GPU as 500 grams.” The information comes directly from the DPD depot where the return was dropped off by the customer. The 500 grams are much lighter than the 1,188 grams confirmed by the manufacturer for the RTX 4070 Ti that the customer allegedly sent in.
- The company added: “Photos from DPD and our internal surveillance camera have been obtained that show the package with the GPU was in the same condition as during pickup when it passed through the DPD hub and arrived at our location.” This suggests that it was likely not tampered with during delivery.
- The customer attempted to cancel his financing agreement for the product directly with the finance company, but the bank rejected the customer’s actions. Additionally, they stated, “The customer, the police, or the regulatory authority have not contacted us since.”
- The company also explained that no foreign graphics card could enter their inventory. This includes the item in dispute, the cited RTX 3050. As they emphasized again, they do not have an RTX 3050 in their official company inventory.
What evidence does the company present against the customer? According to the company’s evidence, as PCGamer explains, there could only have been a short period during which the graphics card could have been swapped: from the moment the graphics card left the apartment to the point it was dropped off at the depot.
According to PCGamer and the PC company, this rather indicates that the customer himself swapped the graphics card. PCGamer adds somewhat amusedly: It seems the customer made a rookie mistake by trying to pull a fast one on a PC company.
Has the player reached out again? No. The company states: Neither the customer, the police, nor the regulatory authority have contacted them again. The matter is probably settled for now unless Overclockers UK takes further action against the customer. They did not comment on that.
