A player tested the “Dark Urge” for the first time in Baldur’s Gate 3, with their run turning out unexpectedly chaotic. The reason for this lies in the specifics of the Origins.
What did the player test? In Baldur’s Gate 3, players have the option to play so-called “Origins” in addition to their own characters. These characters have their own stories that players can explore during their run.
The user “Mister Spikes” decided to play the “Dark Urge” (German: Dunkle Verlangen
), but his run went differently than planned, as he revealed on Reddit. Beginners should probably avoid this Origin, as it presents some unique challenges:
- Even with the “Dark Urge,” you can customize the class, race, and appearance as usual.
- The challenge, however, is that the Dark Urge is a mad killer without memories, and this trait affects your run.
- The Dark Urge loves everything related to killing. Sometimes, you have no option but to give in to this bloodlust.
I guess that’s it for Gale
How did the player’s run go? The user shared on Reddit that he hadn’t spoiled this dark character for himself yet and therefore didn’t know what to expect in this run. However, he quickly realized that his run was becoming problematic: After 30 minutes, Lae’zel was already gone, and his only companion since then has been Shadowheart.
When he tried to save Gale, the player was given the option “Fantasy about chopping off Gale’s hand.” Since it was just a fantasy – or so he thought – he chose this option, only to find out that he actually severed Gale’s hand.
In his thread, he shared his thoughts, assuming that it was the end for Gale. Although this aspect initially frustrated him, he ended up enjoying this special run a lot.
Community reactions: The comments under the thread show that the community found the entire situation quite amusing. Many, however, also expressed understanding for the player and encouraged him by saying that most would likely have chopped off Gale’s hand as well.

I guess you at least have a part of him with you always.

Dear diary. Met a cute wizard today. I held his hand all the way to Baldur’s Gate

I’m pretty sure that anyone who blindly does the Durge probably won’t have a Gale in their first run. Hilarious, honestly.
Did you play the Dark Urge
and spare Gale? Feel free to let us know in the comments. Gale is a favorite among companions, but he often causes many players to fail in the cRPG: Baldur’s Gate 3: The most popular Origin character is also often the reason you die
