A player has ordered a new AMD graphics card for his computer. But the graphics card ends up in pouring rain. So what alternatives are there to ensure that my package from Amazon doesn’t end up in the rain or in my neighbor’s flowerbed?
A user has ordered a new graphics card. On Reddit, he complains that the graphics card was delivered without packaging and was simply left in the rain. Accordingly, the package looks like it now.
Many people from the community are surprised and show little understanding for this action. Because in the worst case, the graphics card could have been damaged, making it unusable.
Some are also warning him and pointing out that he should send the graphics card back immediately, as he cannot be sure whether the GPU even works. But are there any ways to prevent such a delivery in the rain?
Packstation, Hermes or Amazon packaging as an alternative
Select Amazon packaging: If you want to have the package delivered by Amazon, we recommend choosing Amazon packaging. You do this directly at the time of ordering. To do this, scroll all the way down, where you will find the corresponding button. By default, Amazon sends your package in the manufacturer’s packaging.
During the ordering process, you often have two options at checkout when ordering a package:
- Reduce packaging, send in the manufacturer’s packaging.
- With Amazon packaging, the contents remain hidden.
If you choose the second option (Amazon packaging), your shipment will arrive in one of Amazon’s standard boxes. This way, other people cannot see what you have ordered, and there is also a little bit more minimal protection when Amazon secures the package properly. However, Amazon can still leave the package at your doorstep if you do not set any other shipping.
You can also choose another shipping method in addition to Amazon packaging. We will explain these to you now. All possible options are also listed by Amazon itself.
DHL as an option: Instead of leaving the shipping to Amazon, you can now have many packages sent to a pack station with DHL. This may take a day longer, but in the case of valuable items, it is the better option than if valuable components end up in the rain or on the street. The pack station is usually secured. Disadvantage: Some shipments, such as those from third parties or very large devices, cannot be sent or forwarded to the pack station.
Hermes as an alternative: Another option is to choose a Hermes package shop. Here, the package will be delivered to the respective package shop. The disadvantage: You can only pick up your package when the shop or business with Hermes is open.
Amazon Locker as an option: A third option is also so-called Amazon lockers: These are pack stations that are exclusively supplied by Amazon. Usually, you don’t have to pay anything extra if you have the package delivered to a package shop or to an Amazon or DHL pack station. The disadvantage, however, is that you have to have an Amazon locker nearby. Such lockers are increasingly found in large cities, but much rarer in small towns and villages.
What does all this bring? With all the alternatives, you have the advantage that the package does not end up on the street or in front of your door, where it can either be soaked by rain or taken by strangers.
The disadvantage, however, is always that the shipping takes a day longer than if you were to have Amazon deliver directly to you. No option is perfect.
