A player in Baldur’s Gate 3 is excited about a monk build and presents compelling arguments to try out the class. MeinMMO reveals what it’s all about.
Since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 at the beginning of August, players have tirelessly experienced their adventures in the world of Faerûn. However, it seems that some of us have overlooked one of the apparently most fascinating classes in the game: the monk.
Larian Studios published some statistics after the release weekend, showing among other things which classes players prefer. It turned out that the monk was rather an unpopular choice.
An attentive player now shows that the monk is indeed an underestimated class. He has discovered a strong build and presents some good arguments to try the monk.
Why you should try the monk in Baldur’s Gate 3
On Reddit, the player punk249 shares his monk build and reveals his impressive damage statistics for the class action Flurry of Blows: Topple.
With the build, the bonus action reaches a damage range of 56-100.
How is the high damage composed? The monk not only deals high base damage but also throws numerous additional damage rolls with this build, including necrotic, radiant, and energy damage through a passive ability and items. Additionally, he gets +20 to the knockback damage of Flurry of Blows: Topple
due to the talent Brawler
and his high strength.
On Reddit, the player punk249 shares his joyful discovery:
How did he manage that? In the comments, punk249 explains what he has used for his monk build. He plays a strength-based monk, not one that relies on dexterity for his attacks. For that, strength must be higher than your dexterity.
The player cleverly utilized various items and talents to achieve impressive damage.
This armor he uses:
- Horns of the Berserker, which you can buy at the shop in Act 3
Danthelon’s Dance Axe
– near the Wyrm Bridge. Your unarmed attacks will deal additional necrotic damage.

Boots of uninhibited Kushigo
. The shoes deal additional damage equal to your wisdom modifier with your unarmed strikes. You get the shoes when transitioning from Act 2 to Act 3.- He chose 16 wisdom in the allocation of his attributes and sacrificed intelligence and charisma for it. He also chose the talent attribute improvement, which allowed him to increase his wisdom by +2 to reach a total of 18 wisdom.
- Gloves of Soulcatching, which you can also obtain in Act 3 – in the House of Hope. With the gloves, you deal additional energy damage with your unarmed strikes.

This is what he has done additionally:
- He maximized his strength to 20 first with the talent attribute improvement. Next, he chose the talent
Brawler
. With Brawler, the following happens: When you make an unarmed attack with your monk, you add your strength modifier twice to your damage and attack rolls. You also get a bonus of +1 to constitution or strength. - To exceed 20 strength, he grabbed the Potion of Eternal Vitality, which you can obtain in the Towers of the Moonrise in Act 2, you need Astarion for that. You receive a potion that gives +2 to your strength permanently.
- With the talent
Brawler
, he used the Elixir of the Cloud Giant to give his monk 27 strength. But even without this talent, his strength would already be at 22. The elixir can be bought from the merchant or crafted yourself, and it works until the next long rest. - The radiant damage comes from a passive ability of the subclass
Way of the Open Hand
, which you can also interchange with psychic or necrotic damage.
Overall, this build demonstrates the immense strength of the monk in Baldur’s Gate 3 and a possibility to explore this class in completely new ways. Who knows, maybe you can also experience an exciting adventure in Faerûn with the monk.
What do you think of the build? Are you perhaps playing another monk build that is also strong? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
