A player has set himself an unusual challenge in Minecraft. For this, he has already spent 14 years and collected almost half a million US dollars.
What did the player need 14 years for? The journey of the player named KurtJMacs began on March 7, 2011. He set himself the goal of reaching the so-called “Far Lands” in Minecraft on foot and in survival mode.
The Far Lands are a legendary terrain glitch from Minecraft Beta 1.7.3. Starting at a distance of about 12,550,821 blocks from the starting point, the world generation began to calculate “incorrectly”. Instead of normal landscapes, huge, chaotic formations emerged: gigantic walls, deep chasms, and bizarre patterns that sprawled like an endless wall across the world.
On his YouTube channel, he shares his journey under the title “Minecraft Far Lands or Bust”. He has raised nearly $500,000 (equivalent to about €400,000) for charitable projects such as Child’s Play, Direct Relief, the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, and the Equal Justice Initiative.
He has published over 53 episodes of his series and regularly shares content with his community that showcases his journey. Now, after 14 years, he still has not reached his goal, but a watching YouTuber is firmly convinced: It will happen soon.
Is the “magic point” about to be reached?
Why does the YouTuber believe KurtJMacs is close? As YouTuber AntVenom shares in his video, he is very certain that KurtJMacs will soon reach his goal. He is so sure because he has “calculated” and that, even though the player has rarely pressed the F3 key, which shows him his coordinates.
According to AntVenom, KurtJMacs only needs about 200,000 blocks more to reach the Far Lands. He calculated this based on how much time elapsed between pressing the F3 key and pressing it again, and how many blocks he must have traveled in that time according to his coordinates.
In his estimates, he comes to the conclusion that KurtJMacs still has about 24 hours of walking left. Since his episodes are all about 3 hours long, he believes that the player will finally reach his goal in episode 60.
In his opinion, the “magic point” will be reached soon, and KurtJMacs would thus have achieved “one of the greatest achievements in the entire Minecraft and gaming history”.
