A player has made it their goal to calculate the size of a new map in Monster Hunter Wilds. The result is impressive.
Monster Hunter Wilds will be released in 2025, but anticipation is steadily rising. Recently, more and more weapons for monster hunting have been introduced, and the booth at gamescom attracted numerous interested fans.
More and more material about the game is surfacing, and increasingly more people have the opportunity to try out the game. You can read everything about the release of Monster Hunter Wilds here.
A player used the new insights and wanted to find out exactly: How big will the new maps in Monster Hunter Wilds be?
Player simulates a path in Monster Hunter Wilds – with exciting results
This was the experiment: The user “Boun” shared on X.com their experiment to calculate the size of the new map “Windward Plains”. As a comparison, they used the Monster Hunter World map “Wildspire Waste”.
To compare the sizes, the user selected a linear run sequence, which was probably not that easy, as almost everyone is using the new feathered mount Seikret to progress.
When they finally found a sequence, they tried to replicate it in Monster Hunter World and then map it onto the respective maps. This gave them a rough idea of the scale of the route and thus concluded back to the size of the map.
Their result shows a Wilds map that is significantly larger than the World counterpart. You can find the post about it here:
What should one consider? It is still relatively imprecise, as the exact speeds of the compared hunters may not be the same, and aspects like terrain areas are not included here.
However, in principle, the calculation is likely approximately correct, as it aligns with statements from the developers.
What do the developers say about map sizes in Monster Hunter Wilds?
How big will the maps be? In a preview with an interview from IGN , there was already mention of maps that are approximately twice as large as in earlier games. This also fits with the user’s result above, as this map is about two and a half times larger.
In an interview with MeinMMO’s chief editor Leya Jankowski, the developers briefly discussed the large maps of the new game. Various aspects, such as the game’s introduction, have been revised, which players found challenging or “that they have problems with because the map is now so much larger and one might get lost more easily,” said producer Ryozo Tsujimoto. Therefore, the new Seikret can help with navigation through autopilot.
This “much larger map” is supposed to be well populated. Regarding the desert map “Windward Plains” from the example, executive director Kaname Fujioka stated: “There are dunes in the desert, but it is not just sand. There is also a great variety within the desert area, like caves you can explore, cliffs, and savannas. There is definitely variation within the same environment.” So, it should not get boring to go on an exploration – even though the maps will be noticeably larger.
