How did the player lose the weapon? The user Beginning-Tension-24 shared a clip on Reddit showing how he farms a legendary weapon. He is fighting against the flying boss Bramblesong and defeats him quite easily at level 50 without problems. He seemingly uses the quite strong Blood Build from Vex.
After the kill, a legendary weapon drops that he did not have before. The weapon lands on a platform and starts bouncing several times before it falls into the abyss. He tries to scream and jump after it but fails to loot the weapon.

How do you get back lost loot? In large cities, for example at the fast travel point Launch Pad
in the first area, you will find a building with various machines. Where you also have the chest for golden keys from SHiFT codes, there is also the Lost Loot machine.
There you will find loot that you did not pick up or that was dropped during fights with NPCs. The legendary weapon that fell into the abyss should also be found there. However, he himself states that his Lost Loot machine was probably full, which is why the weapon is permanently lost.
How does the community react? Users in the comments sympathize with him but also explain that they ignore the machine because it often contains rather poor loot. For example, Fantastic-Tax-971 (Reddit) writes that equipment with higher rarity probably does not take priority.
Also, in an older Reddit thread, a player complains about the Lost Loot machines as they are constantly filled only with white loot.
How can the problem be solved? Through SDUs (storage upgrades), you can not only increase your weapon’s ammunition capacity, but you can also increase the slots in the Lost Loot machines. However, this is not worthwhile; you should prioritize your backpack and weapons instead.
Another option would be to check if the machine is actually emptied before farming a boss, so that there is room for lost loot in case of emergencies.
