A “Gamer Mum” with a job and little time is asking the community if there are like-minded people in Diablo 4 – in other words, “older players”, with or without children. And with that, she has pretty much described the core of the player base.
Here’s what it’s like with the “old gamers”: Diablo 4 has quickly earned the reputation of being the perfect game for dads with little time. Anyone with a family, a job, and generally little time to game is right here. On top of that, it is a popular game among those who grew up with Diablo.
Now, a player on Reddit is speaking up: She wants to know if there are more gaming parents out there – or even childless gamers with everyday responsibilities. She is particularly interested in how others fit their gaming rhythm in between jobs, pets, and to-do lists.
The 35-year-old gaming mum has two small children and loves to play a round or two in the morning with a cup of coffee before the day starts. And as it turns out: She is not alone, as this is basically the target audience of the ARPG.
Some gamer parents have it tough:
“I bet the majority are over 25”
This is what the community says about it: In the Reddit post, several players who belong to the target group are speaking up. The top comment (over 1,200 upvotes) comes from tehjoch, who says: “Pretty sure the main target group of Diablo 4 is exactly gamer parents.”
The user AnubisIncGaming notes: “The game series is older than that.” He is 32, married, and childless. And nero-the-cat writes: “I am not only over 25, I have been playing Diablo for over 25 years.” Many agree in the comments.
Under the Reddit post, there are some reports from like-minded individuals. Here are a few we summarize below:
- “Father of three, I play almost every night when everyone is asleep. Usually 1–3 hours before bedtime, it feels really good. First work, then kids, and when everyone is in bed, it’s my time. This really helps me unwind […]. If someone wants to play together, just send a PM, I’ll send you my tag.” – pray4yourSelfToday
- “43, mom of 4, the youngest is 13 and the oldest has already moved out. The kids mostly do their own thing. I work full-time but can work from home a few days a week – that’s when I like to game in the morning with coffee. In Diablo 4, I’m usually really active for the first few weeks of each season. Then it gets quieter because I pursue other games or hobbies. […] But slaying demons? Still great.” – OrangeEra
- “I am 36, but without children. I have a full-time job. During the week, I game a few evenings for 1–2 hours, and a bit more on weekends. […] The game is perfect for an hour in the morning with coffee or in the evening to unwind. You can play it casually or super grindy – depending on your mood.” – SnowBeeJay
- “I bet the majority here are over 25. I am 36, married, have two kids (4 and 5). My wife is not a gamer, but super supportive. […] My wife watches series, I play, but we are in the same room, talking and laughing. We’ve been doing that for over 10 years.” – Yenza
The pace, the difficulty levels, and the variety of activities are apparently just right for casuals and gamer dads – or rather: for anyone who just wants to unwind. For many, the Nightmare Dungeons are a paradise for farming, because you can play at your own pace and chill out.
Blizzard has also recognized that Diablo 4 is a game for gamer dads and mums. Diablo head Rod Fergusson stated in March 2025 in an interview that they deliberately did not want to lose sight of casual players. The team behind Diablo 4 is specifically focusing on casuals.
