The early access version of the battle royale shooter Planetside Arena has launched. Players on Steam are reporting very different opinions.
What is Planetside Arena? Planetside Arena is not an online shooter that lets you compete against each other in large battles like the other installments in the series. Planetside Arena is a battle royale game.
You fight in the role of one of three available classes in a team of three or twelve players for victory, collecting weapons and gadgets and aiming to be the last survivor on the battlefield.
When did the shooter launch? The early access phase began on September 19 via Steam. Versions for PS4 and Xbox One are to follow.
A Divided Community
How is the game being received? On Steam, the ratings currently sit at 44 percent, which is “Mixed”.
According to Steamcharts, an average of about 840 players were online at the same time, with a peak of 1,481.
What do players think of the shooter? Opinions on Planetside Arena are highly divided. Fans of the series are disappointed that the title has strayed so far from the other games in the series.
Many believe that Planetside Arena, in name only, has nothing to do with Planetside anymore, which is very unfortunate. Criticism was immediate with the first gameplay video.
On the other hand, there are those who had nothing to do with Planetside before. These players see a battle royale shooter that is indeed fun and has a lot of potential. Also, the fact that vehicles are basically a must is seen by some as an interesting feature.
Planetside Arena is not Planetside
What is special about the opinions? The ratings show that Planetside Arena is somewhat dividing the community. Especially fans of Planetside are disappointed and find it hard to engage with the battle royale shooter.
However, those who have had nothing to do with the series before find the title not bad at all. As a battle royale game, Planetside Arena seems to work quite well, just not as part of the Planetside series.
What do you think of the shooter? Have you had a chance to play it?
