The MMO shooter Planetside 2 is having a hard time, as players are leaving. The developers want to counter this trend with a major update.
Last month, Planetside 2 lost a significant number of players, as can be seen from Steamcharts. Interestingly, some new players joined in August, likely due to the announcement of the major update. To stop the downward trend, the developers of the online shooter released the promised update, which overhauls an important game mechanic: the conquest of continents.

Continent Conquests Will Be More Exciting
Until now, it was not entirely clear when a continent was considered conquered. Suddenly, one party had it under their control. With the major update “Critical Mass,” this is set to change.
Players should be much more aware of what they need to do to conquer a continent, and they should feel that their actions really make a difference. They should notice that the turning point has come now, and with a few more victories, the continent will belong to them.
Up until now, everything has been rather chaotic, which was probably a reason why many fans stopped playing.
Group Play is More Important
Until now, group play was necessary, but it was not clear how this affected victory. Did a lone wolf have as much chance to contribute to the win? To conquer a continent now, one really has to feel as a group that they are facing a big challenge, which indeed requires a group. The victory should feel hard-fought and come with appropriate rewards.
The major “Critical Mass” update also brings new weapons, weapon adjustments, bug fixes, and many other optimizations and changes. How this ultimately affects the population of the online shooter Planetside 2 will be seen over time.
