Anyone who had nothing to play with their friends in 2025 probably accessed Steam at some point. The “Friendslop” game that puts your friendships to the test. Now the developer must fend off impatient fans.
What is PEAK? PEAK is one of the biggest surprise successes of 2025 on Steam. The Friendslop game challenges you to true teamwork and lets you climb a mountain higher and higher, only to reward you with the next goal in sight. If you fail, for example, by being too slow, you start over.
What started as a fun game on Twitch also attracted many new buyers, so the title reached a peak of a whopping 170,000 players simultaneously (Source: SteamDB). But with many players came high expectations of the developers, which they sometimes cannot meet.

Indie developer remains an indie developer
How is the development going? The developers of PEAK have just released a major update that allows players to set their own rules for their adventure. Furthermore, the title is expected to receive its final biome in 2026 and thus be completed.
However, the slow progress of updates does not sit well with some fans. One user complains that the developers are “lazy” and that there are far too few new contents. However, the developer does not let that slide and explains:
“PEAK has actually received sooo many updates! Neither we nor Aggro Crab are live service studios – each update is a bonus, not an obligation.”
Where does the expectation come from? In times when games are supplied with updates for years even without a live service announcement and early access blends with full release, fans are used to receiving innovations for their games.
But Landfall, the developers behind PEAK, are also somewhat to blame for the players’ expectations. April 1 has traditionally been the date for a new release in recent years. In 2026, there was for the first time in five years no new game for the Joke Day.
So the developers explain on X.com: “Last year was our busiest yet, with the release of PEAK, Haste, TABS: Pocket Edition and the ports of ROUNDS. We have been working on something new for this year, but ultimately it didn’t pan out.”
The developers of PEAK will complete their team work trial this year and will then presumably dedicate themselves to new games.
