With Payday 3, the successor to one of the most popular shooters on Steam has been released. However, player reviews are predominantly negative, with many expressing disappointment. What is going on?
The Payday series is known for its hardcore, tactical co-op content. You and your friends take on the role of a criminal, robbing banks or engaging in other illegal activities.
Just a few days ago, the long-awaited successor finally appeared on Steam, which was at the top of many players’ wish lists on Steam. However, the first players appear disillusioned and disappointed. As of now (as of 23.09.2023), the ratings are “Mostly Negative” and out of over 15,000 reviews, only 30% are positive.
Many are complaining about “Always Online” and catastrophic matchmaking
This is what disappointed fans are saying:
- Always Online with server issues and queues
- No voice chat
- Less gameplay depth than in the predecessor: fewer weapons; fewer skills; poorer mask selection
- Many say: There is no longer any planning in advance of a heist, where you determine whether to proceed stealthily or loudly
- For many players, it’s clear: Currently, the game offers far too little content for its high price, and it represents a step back compared to Payday 2
Especially the “Always Online” requirement is criticized by many players. Many want to play Payday 3 solo and be able to complete missions offline. And many believe that matchmaking is so terrible only because of the online requirement.
Some also explain that Payday 2 only offered 12 missions at launch. That was not much either, but at least the tasks were varied. In the latest title, everything somehow looks the same.
Many users now hope that the developers will take their time and quickly fix the biggest problems. In particular, the poor matchmaking is driving many people crazy.
