Starbreeze, the struggling company that nearly had to close due to the flop Overkill’s The Walking Dead, is putting everything on the upcoming shooter Payday 3, as Payday 2 was a huge success on Steam for years.
What is Payday 3? Not much is currently known about the sequel to the Steam hit Payday 2. It appears to build on the concept of the second part, where you must carry out heists cooperatively with four players or even alone.
The missions in Payday 2 are always varied, as they can change midway.
Payday 2 didn’t have a really coherent story. It’s simply about the heists that the gangsters Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf, and Chains conduct. Perhaps part 3 will build on this and place more emphasis on story.
An extremely important game
When is Payday 3 coming out? Starbreeze stated that work is progressing, but one should not expect the release of Payday 3 before 2022, rather 2023.
Why is the game so important? Starbreeze was close to going under last year. The extremely flopped release of the action game Overkill’s The Walking Dead led to CEO Bo Andersson leaving the company.
Starbreeze was on the brink of bankruptcy.
The studio had to focus on restructuring in 2019 to keep operations going. Therefore, no new game was released last year.
Now Starbreeze is putting all its hope on the Payday brand and here on Payday 3. Essentially, the action game is meant to save the company.

Why Payday of all games? With Payday 2, Starbreeze landed a big hit in 2013. Even in 2019, the action game sold excellently. Fans are eagerly waiting for a sequel, which is why Starbreeze must focus on Payday 3.
However, the new part is still far from being released. To bridge the gap, the team is continuing to work on new content for Payday 2. Another DLC was released at the end of 2019, which caused the player count on Steam to nearly triple, according to Steamcharts.

What is the problem? Starbreeze cannot handle the distribution of Payday 3 themselves. The company simply lacks the funds after restructuring.
Therefore, they are currently looking for a publisher who can ensure a stable financial situation and also handle the marketing. Hopefully, a partner will be found quickly.
