Things are not going well for the MMORPG Pax Dei. Only a few players are logging into the MMORPG. Nevertheless, the developers remain optimistic and make a promise.
How is Pax Dei doing right now? The MMORPG is currently not in a good position. On Steam, there have been no more than 1,000 players logged in simultaneously for about a month, and recently, there were not even more than 500 players checking out the MMORPG over the weekend (via SteamDB).
The problems of the MMORPG are diverse:
- The MMORPG was released in Early Access on Steam, but was considered too unfinished by many.
- The developers also recognized this and adjusted many fundamental systems in an update.
- In May 2025 came the shock, almost 30% of the developers had to be laid off, even before the game was released.
- Almost simultaneously, the new combat system was introduced, which is mostly reminiscent of WoW.
- Recently, there was a significant backlash from the community, when the developers introduced a subscription model, forcing players to pay monthly for the core feature of owning plots.
Now, however, the developers are looking forward to the release of the game and also discussing the time thereafter.

Updates After Release
What do the developers promise? Pax Dei is expected to leave Early Access on Steam in 2025 and then be released as a full version. In a new blog post on playpaxdei.com, the developers talked about their experiences while working on their MMORPG as well as the future.
They explain: “[…] We see no future in which we stop adding new features and content to the game – the upcoming 1.0 moment is not the end of this continuous development of Pax Dei.”
Despite the low player numbers, the developers want to continue supporting their MMORPG and especially provide new updates.
What else will happen before the release? The release, set to happen in 2025, will bring significant changes and upgrades. In their blog post, the developers write:
The next update to the game will begin to pave the way for the future. The old Lyonesse will disappear and be replaced by a new, much larger Lyonesse, which will be as large as the other provinces. This is necessary for the gameplay that we will introduce throughout the year in updates. As a first tasting, there will be two new resources exclusively available in Lyonesse and a new enchanting feature that ties in with alchemy and jewel crafting. After you refine the resources with both professions, you can create consumable items that permanently increase the item strength of enchanted items. There are rumors that cultists in the area are also interested in the resources, so keep an eye out for the collectors in the area.
Further content expected to be released this year includes updates to the PvP system, more social interaction, a new rights system for building plots, improved crafting, trading cities, and a governance system. The developers certainly have much planned.
Whether Pax Dei will survive until the release or if it will bring a turnaround and success for the MMORPG remains uncertain. Should Pax Dei ultimately fail, it may well be a contender for this list: 6 MMORPGs that everyone looked forward to and then disappointed
