Coming soon is the new update “Settlers of Kalguur” for Path of Exile. Included are changes that improve the comfort and player experience of the ARPG. A particularly important improvement has likely been on fans’ wishlist for more than ten years.
What does Path of Exile: Settlers of Kalguur bring? Patch 3.25 will be released on July 26, 2024 for PC and console. Over the past few days, the developers at Grinding Gear Games have presented some of the update’s features through their social media channels.
What’s particularly exciting is the significant increase in the item pickup range. Previously, players had to almost stand on a loot item to pick it up. Uncomfortable, and a criticism that has been voiced repeatedly since the launch in October 2013. How large the new pickup distance is, is shown in the following clip:
By the way, six months ago, the topic also came up in relation to Path of Exile 2. In an interview with streamers RaizQT, Nugiyen, and ZiggyD (via Youtube), the developers explained that they are aware of the problem and would like to improve the pickup range for PoE 2.
However, it is important to find the right balance. They do not want to give the characters mystical telekinesis powers that allow them to pull items from a great distance. The solution in Patch 3.25 shows that a new compromise between realism and comfort has been found.
Path of Exile 2 is planned to be optimized for consoles from the start – the trailer shows what is planned:

What other improvements are planned? On the official website of Path of Exile, the developers list the new features that will come with “Settlers of Kalguur”:
- The so-called reservation effects (such as auras) will now persist beyond death.
- Harvest encounters can now be started with just one action.
- You no longer need to click on a waypoint to activate it.
- The rarity of an item is no longer relevant when applying items that affect quality to non-unique items. Instead, the item level will be decisive.
- The quality bonuses of armor and weapons will now work multiplicatively. Fully quality weapons will grant 20 percent more physical damage, fully quality armors will provide 20 percent more defense.
- Pinnacle and Act bosses now have static health bars.
- Sister Cassia has discovered a new brand oil. All secret “Notables” that can be anointed on an amulet now use this oil.
- A sixth slot for “Map Devices” is coming.
- The rewards for the bandit quests from Act Two will be adjusted.
- Simulacrums will have fewer waves and a greater chance of unique rewards.
Are these optimizations enough to lure you to the ARPG’s servers starting July 26, 2024? Or would you rather wait until Path of Exile 2 is finished and playable? Share your thoughts in the comments! The developers themselves might understand this well: Path of Exile has a big problem: It’s just too old – That’s what the head says
