At a press presentation of the new season of Path of Exile 2, the head was asked about the release date. Now he reveals when it is supposed to be.
Isn’t Path of Exile 2 already released? Path of Exile 2 is currently in early access on Steam. The developers use this time to test, improve, and finalize the game’s features. The hack-and-slash was originally supposed to stay in early access for just a year, but many fans no longer believed that.
Now the head, Jonathan Rogers, revealed in a press presentation why nothing will happen in 2025.
Release probably not in 2025
When is the new release date? According to Game Director Jonathan Rogers, Path of Exile 2 will probably not be completed in 2025. The developers want to leave early access only when all classes and acts are finalized.
Furthermore, the head explained that the balance of skills, classes, and monsters in the game needs to be balanced before the release can occur. In his opinion, this will not be the case in 2025. Instead, he names March 2026 as the new release date, when Season 4 of Path of Exile 2 is supposed to start. However, a lot will change with the new Season 2.
What do you need to know about Season 2 of Path of Exile 2? The new Season 2 of Path of Exile brings hundreds of changes and expansions of existing systems. While no new class is being added, the story will be expanded with the new Act 4 and so-called interludes. The previous harsh difficulty level “Cruel” will be removed. Things will go faster thanks to a new sprint feature.
Additionally, the first real league of Path of Exile 2, named “Rise of the Abyssal,” adds undead holes from which enemies and bosses emerge, and which players can sometimes dive into to upgrade their gear. As usual, the monsters provide more risk, but also substantial rewards.
In terms of classes and balance, many skills and the passive skill tree have undergone changes. The introduction of 40 new “Lineage” support skills and the removal of the limit of one type of support skill per character in favor of unlimited identical support skills per character are intended to shift away from one-skill builds towards multi-skill builds.
There is also a significant change regarding crafting and offline trading. The developers are introducing a new NPC that will enable offline trading, as well as many new currency items to facilitate crafting and solo gameplay.
The new Season 2 “The Third Edict” starts on August 29, 2025, and will be available for all players to play for free over the entire weekend from the start, as the developers are launching a free weekend that lasts until September 1, 2025.
