During a press preview of the new expansion “The Last of the Druids”, the head of Path of Exile 2 spoke about the release and explained when it will happen.
Isn’t Path of Exile 2 already out? Path of Exile 2 went into Early Access on Steam in December 2024 and was originally supposed to remain there for a maximum of one year, until the end of 2025. However, plans have changed and the release has recently been postponed to March 2026.
MeinMMO was able to ask the head some questions during the presentation of the new season and knows now the new plans for the release.

New Delays
When will it be ready? The head, Jonathan Rogers, recently explained to MeinMMO that they are currently no longer targeting March 2026 for the release of Path of Exile 2. Instead, the next expansion, Update 0.5, will be released then.
Rather than naming a specific date again, the head did not want to commit this time and only revealed that if it were up to him, Path of Exile 2 would be fully released in 2026. However, whether this date can be met again depends on many factors, and currently, there is a lack of new classes as well as content for the single-player mode.
Many Innovations in the Upcoming Season
What’s new? With the update “The Last of the Druids”, the eponymous Druid class will be added to Path of Exile. The class can transform into a Bear, Wolf, or Wyvern depending on its main weapon.
This makes the class essentially four classes in one, offering an extremely diverse range of gameplay options. As a Bear, it can withstand a lot and perform powerful AoE attacks, while as a Wolf it focuses on ice attacks, quick strikes, and its own pack. As a Wyvern, it can use wing attacks, lightning attacks, and of course a powerful dragon breath.
The developers assured us in conversation that players can constantly switch between human and beast forms, but they can also choose to commit to just one form, with both variants being well playable. So, if you prefer to wander around with your wolf pack, you never have to walk as a human unless you want to.

What league mechanic can we expect? As a league mechanic, we will delve into the depths of the Vaal Temple. This ancient civilization has left behind many ruins to explore in the new season. For the characters, this means Craft-Your-Temple, which can be expanded with various rooms according to personal preference, offering new challenges and unique loot mechanics.
Players will also be able to corrupt their items in the temples a second time, which has a 50% chance of destroying an item. Nevertheless, this can also yield extremely powerful items.
Additionally, players can tinker with their characters. There are prosthetics with bonus effects that only last until the next death, making no-death runs even more exciting.
Even though the release of Path of Exile 2 is still a bit away, players can start with new content in the ARPG on December 12.
